Shepherd Shield is a mobile application designed for iPhones, offering users real-time threat assessments through its alert system. These assessments are based on a color-coded alert index ranging from green to red, indicating the severity of the threat level.

Alerts from Shepherd Shield are triggered based on a user's proximity to potential threat areas, utilizing information from law enforcement, emergency services, news sources, and predefined threat zones to provide timely notifications.

The app was initially launched in 2017 in Washington State with plans for future expansion across all 50 states in North America and internationally.

Users of Shepherd Shield can tailor their preferences by selecting from various alert categories, such as high crime areas, active shooter notifications, terrorist threats, weather emergencies, and information on registered sex offenders. The data can be accessed individually, in list format, or via a map feature, with customizable functions and a reporting feature for users to contribute information.

In critical situations like active shooter alerts, the app issues immediate warnings to ensure user safety.

Shepherd Shield allows users to designate their "Top 5 Safety Spots," such as schools or office buildings. In case of an alert at one of these locations, the app will automatically notify the user.

Key features of the app include a "Call 911" button and an "SOS" button that connects users to the 24/7 Shepherd Shield dispatch center located in the USA. It is important to note that a cellular connection is required for making these calls.

Developed by Security Services Northwest, Inc., a comprehensive security firm based in Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula, Shepherd Shield was founded by Joe D'Amico, the President of SSNW since 1986. Inspired by his earlier career working with a German Shepherd security patrol dog and driven by a commitment to campus safety as a parent of five children, D'Amico created Shepherd Shield to empower individuals with a personal security solution.
